Thank you Macon County Continuum of Care
The Macon County Continuum of Care and its member agencies are at the forefront in reducing the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Decatur. I want to thank the COC for everything they do to provide shelter to those in need.
At the annual presentation of the Point-in-Time Count survey, we learned that the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Decatur increased this year but is still considerably lower than its peak. I applaud the COC and its member agencies for their dedication to providing shelter to those that need it and eliminating homelessness in our city.
Reducing the number of people experiencing homelessness means providing housing that is safe, suitable, and affordable. The city of Decatur through its neighborhood revitalization effort can collaborate with the COC to become a model for a housing first approach to ending homelessness.
I thank the COC for naming me their Advocate of the Year. It is a tremendous honor and I look forward to supporting the COC’s efforts to end homelessness in Decatur.
