Study session to discuss possible closure of fire station postponed

The Decatur City Council study session scheduled for Monday, August 10 has been postponed.  The study session was to discuss 13 options for reducing expenses as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak including the closure of the city’s busiest fire station (at least temporarily) and reducing the number of sworn police officers.

Over the past 24 hours, the council has received a large amount of correspondence expressing concerns about the proposal to close Fire Station #1.  I am opposed to this closure for numerous reasons.  Not only is it the busiest station, but it also serves a group of citizens most in need.  I thank everyone who has reached out to me and the other council members to express their concerns.

The city council study session will take place at a later date.  In the meantime, if you would like to discuss these or any other issues with a city council member, phone numbers and e-mail addresses for each council member can be found at the following link: https://www.decaturil.gov/mayor-and-council/council/.
